How wisdom gained through reflecting transforms your life

Today, you could be doing the same thing you did ten years ago. However, not doing things in a different tone might mean that little has changed.

Knowledge is the price you pay for showing up with everything you have learned for the same task you have done before.

It might take a while to determine what one wants out of life. But there are always clues that direct the path that is for you.

Some people easily reach the path that is destined for them because they know that they are born to sing or write. Therefore, they do not spend their time doing other things, while others have had to dig deeper to find their purpose by trying out many things.

But there’s always that one or two activities or goals that you always come back to. And the reason for doing them is outside of yourself.

Wisdom comes with learning the lessons repeated in time through great observation of what to do and not what to do.

We often think of wisdom as being only good, but wisdom is also about avoiding the things that will derail our lives.

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.” Colossians 4:5

The concept of redeeming our time is twofold:

  • The first is about using the knowledge we have gained in the past to do better for our future.
  • Secondly, it’s about using wisdom in places or situations where those around us would place us in dangerous situations or futile moments.

If we have loving parents, one of the things that they are always concerned about is the company we keep. Parents quickly noticed that their children often imitate what they do. There are countless videos on social media platforms of children acting out what their parents, grandparents, and friends do.

Our character is determined by what we consume and who influences us.

The constant pursuit of reflection helps us to evaluate the changes we make. For example, if you are an investor, you determine your success by the return on investment. Similarly, a person determines their success by how they have changed negative behaviors and reinforced positive ones.

Wisdom takes into account the changes we make once we have gained knowledge or understanding. A bad investment is costly and one tries to avoid making it by reflecting on their mistakes and studying the market. Therefore, for your next investment, you do your due diligence by observing historical data and waiting out the bad moments.

Investments are for those who are patient, and trading is for those who are in a rush. The more you rush the more mistakes you’re bound to make. Being too patient could also yield greater results, but it also comes with a lot of missed opportunities.

There are both cons and pros to looking at life as an investor or trader. One might need to exercise more patience, while the other might need to learn the best time to sell their investment.

Only wisdom can help you to determine the right time to act upon your investments. Your time is an investment in making the decisions that will help you to do better for your present and future self.
