Mental Health Awareness

Healing the mind is something that can’t be done without a relationship with God. The more content I observe about people or young adults who are over-medicated, you can tell that they often become shells of themselves. It’s sad to be rattled with anxiety, worries and burdens in life.

Our mental health is often connected with how we relate to others. Sometimes it can be a chemical imbalance, which requires medication to be treated. However, it’s something that comes with how we relate to others and what others perceive as socially acceptable behavior. It forms what we allow into our lives.

Matthew 18:18 ‘Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.’

Our own words have the power to create a mental state that can shape how we relate to ourselves and to other people. The thoughts and words that are repeated to ourselves and to others have the ability to create a vision that is based on what we believe to be true. It’s important, to be honest with how we are relating to God, as it dictates the words we speak to ourselves and what we let into our minds, hearts and souls.

Sometimes, a mental scar is caused by the childhood trauma we have experienced. It’s important to do what Kat Kerr calls “a soul checkup”– which is the process of loosing from our souls whatever is consuming us with fear, hate, abuse or any other negative emotions. And to bind the love, peace and joy of God into our souls, minds and hearts. This helps us to keep our mind as free as possible from the negative emotions or experiences that we encounter.

Isaiah 8:16 ‘Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.’

It’s often hard when one has no sounding board to reveal what is enraging them. It makes a person’s life as if there’s no problem, while a person endures torment in silence. But when we hope for nothing to change, we have already lost the battle to get healthy. It’s important to have an honest conversation with someone who can point out our blind spots.

Our thoughts shape the kind of life we want to live. Every person is unique. Some are more aware of what they are constantly feeling or what they are absorbing into their minds, hearts and souls. While others are completely oblivious. That’s when it’s important to have tools that can heighten our sense of awareness of our mental health. For some, it’s hard to even locate a healthy father or mother figure who can help to navigate life with them. Some are dealing with traumas that can’t be explained when there’s no one around to help them. That’s why relying on God is more important for managing our mental health problems.

Proverbs 6: 20-21 ‘My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about the neck.’
