Struggles confirm that God is our Anchor

To love more is to put God first. Looking at the overall view of love, it’s all about loving God more than the things of this world.

We can’t say we love others if we don’t love the God who created us. There are times when going to an ivy league school is the main goal. Or having a managerial career seems important because we think it would make us happy. After we have achieved our goals, we assume that we will attain contentment. But that’s not the case for most people. There’s a yearning that lingers deeper than anything. It’s like an emergency fund for our souls. Nothing can satisfy it; no other person can fill it up for us.

Love is like a broken language that’s confusing to most people. It’ll lead us to do things that are not conducive to us or the next person. If the negative effects are not placed in God’s hands, we’ll run the risk of continuously hurting ourselves and ultimately the next generation. The cycle is only broken by love. It’s the purest form of love that yields to change. And it’s often not comfortable or easy. Struggles often encourage us to self-reflect and to apply self-control from the suffering heart that desires to destroy or avenge itself of inflicted pain.

Knowing that we all fall short of the glory of God, makes me realize that my confidence is not in me or others. It’s in the realization that this world can recognize that love is manifested in believing that God loves us despite our mistakes, pain, fear, anger or anxieties.

The challenge about love is in how we treat each other when we see one another in dire poverty. How do we treat someone looking for a better opportunity in a first world country? Do we welcome them with suspicious hate or embrace them with godly love, once we have established that their intentions are genuine?

In all the getting, we are called to get more wisdom and understanding. These are not the signs of the world as it is known from viewpoints of evolution or the call to end global warming. There’s a symbolic meaning in the ending of dogmas, and Jesus’s return is closer than ever before. It forces us to look at our relationship with God. An introspective take on everything in our lives is something that makes us more grateful, appreciative and supportive to those in pain. We are given this time to pause and to really search for meaning in God and not in science or evolution.

It’s all about how we manifest love for each other during a crisis. Is someone able to lean or cry on your shoulders? Can we pray for one another even when we aren’t in agreement with how we see global or economic issues? It reminds us, that our salvation is precious and practical. We are called to correlate what we say or question with applied actions. Sometimes it’s just about understanding each other’s point of view without disrespecting each other.

One of the social media accounts that makes me happy is the YouVersion Instagram account. It helps me to take time off from uploading or viewing the curated opulence that comes with social media engagements. But to instantly reflect on the Word of God, makes you aware that we are living on borrowed time. Our days here on earth are limited. And we are ought to learn to appreciate our families, friends and everyone who is of service to us. Everyone we encounter is fighting a battle that we know nothing about. Compassion and empathy go a long way in making a difference in peoples lives.

Looking at the vastness of God inspires me. The blue skies and occasional passing clouds covering the sun rays make for a wonderful reminder of the magnitude of God’s love for us. It reminds us that this world is a temporary portal and that we are to always move through this world with ample gratefulness. Especially, when the world seems bleak, we should not allow our love language to be changed by circumstances. Our eternity is longer than the problems of this world. Let’s look to the sky, observe the magnitude of God’s unending love for us, and think of those who continue serving us. Hopefully, this will encourage you to serve in any way you can.
